The Lord has laid on my heart a burden for the Japanese people and the work of building His church there. Japan is often referred to as "The Graveyard of Missionaries". This name is fitting because Japan has long been the kind of rocky soil that Jesus describes in Matthew 13. After receiving Jesus as an adult at the age of 24, the rocky ground of my heart was shattered, and receptive soil was revealed. With a freshly opened heart, God gave me a burden for Japan, and I was moved to respond.

My experience as an adult convert and a lifelong New Englander have given me a zeal for missions, and prepared me to work the difficult fields in Japan. I know how it feels to live in darkness, to have all the comforts of modernity, and still be left with a longing for something greater. I also know just how much it can cost a person to follow Jesus in a place where this is looked down upon, and how heavy that burden of loss can be.

Yet in these moments of darkness that many Japanese people understand all too well, Jesus has the answers they seek, and the peace they crave. It is my desire to plant a church in Tokyo that can be a beacon of light to the lost in Japan. I pray that this church would become a platform for making disciples, raising up leaders, and sending them out to reach the rest of the city, the country, and the world. In the long term, I hope to see a seminary raised up that will invest in the development of Japanese pastors and missionaries who can be the hands and feet that build healthy, God-honoring churches all over Japan.
